چکیده

A 19-year-old male patient was presented with a complaint of palpitation. His physical examination and 12-lead electrocardiogram were normal. Transthoracic echocardiography revealed a mobile, chord-like structure, attached to the anterior papillary muscle and ventricular surface of the anterior mitral leaflet moving in the systole into the left ventricular outflow tract (arrow) (Fig. 1). There was no mitral regurgitation. Doppler examination showed a maximal 20 mm Hg gradient in the left ventricular outflow tract area. Transoesophageal echocardiography revealed an accessory mitral valve tissue (arrow), which adheres to the anterior mitral valve leaflet, and ballooning into the left ventricular outflow tract during the systole (Fig. 2). The patient was followed-up with periodical echocardiographic examinations, and without any surgical intervention. Accessory mitral valve tissue is a rare anomaly of embryologic development of the endocardial cushion. It may be associated with complex cardiac congenital malformations, can cause the left ventricle outImages in Cardiovascular Medicine

Accessory mitral valve tissue is a rare congenital malformation that has been reported in the literature in approximately 130 cases. This condition could be found isolated or in combination with other cardiac anomalies and is usually diagnosed in childhood. It is in differential diagnosis with other cardiac masses as tumors or vegetations. In this article a 27 year old asymptomatic female is p...

An unusual cause of aortic regurgitation: accessory mitral valve

Accessory mitral valve (AMV) is a rare congenital cardiac anomaly that has been reported in 1 in 26,000 people in an echocardiography series. Most cases of AMV are associated with other cardiac abnormalities. Although patients with AMV are usually asymptomatic, syncope, exercise intolerance, and chest pain are described in patients with left ventricular outflow (LVOT) obstruction. Here we prese...

Accessory mitral valve tissue causing severe left ventricular outflow tract obstruction in a post-Senning patient with transposition of the great arteries

Accessory mitral valve tissue is a rare congenital anomaly associated with congenital cardiac defects and is usually detected in the first decade of life. We describe the case of an 18-year old post-Senning asymptomatic patient who was found to have accessory mitral valve tissue on transthoracic echocardiography producing severe left ventricular outflow tract obstruction.

Role of echocardiography in the diagnosis and surgical management of accessory mitral valve tissue causing left ventricular outflow tract obstruction.

We report an unusual case of left ventricular outflow tract obstruction caused by accessory mitral valve tissue. This case illustrates the importance of transthoracic echocardiography in preoperative evaluation and the usefulness of transesophageal echocardiography for intraoperative assessment. If the accessory mitral valve has no functional significance it may be surgically excised, thereby r...

Accessory mitral valve without left ventricular outflow tract obstruction in an adult.

Accessory mitral valve is a rare congenital abnormality and an unusual cause of subvalvular obstruction of the left ventricular outflow tract. Accessory mitral valves are usually detected in children due to symptomatic obstruction; isolated nonobstructive accessory mitral valve is rarely seen in adults. We describe the echocardiographic diagnosis of accessory mitral valve as an isolated congeni...
